Cherokee County Jail

This project in Columbus, Kansas, was successfully completed on schedule and within budget in 2003. Columbus is the second largest city and county seat of Cherokee County, Kansas, which is in southern Kansas, about 15 miles south of Pittsburg, Kansas. 

The overall purpose of the project was to extend the existing size of the jail due to a lack of space for growth and small cell space. When the expansion was completed, the total square footage was 40,000 sq. ft.

Environmental Mechanical’s role in the construction was a complete HVAC rebuild, including:

  • VAV’s, RTU’s and consistent volume RTU’s
  • Controls
  • Test & Balance


The General Contractor for this project was Crossland Construction Company and the engineer was Flynt and Kallenburger.
